SLC Minutes for January 23rd, 2008

Meeting Place: IPAM at 4:00.

Present: Stuart Valentine, Ben Stallings, Brian Robbins, Briggs Shore Diana Krystofiak, Lonnie Gamble and Ken Walton
Absent: Hap Mulleneaux and Grover Stock

Treasurer report and discussion: January 31st Lonnie will meet with LaVona and Stacey to update the charter of accounts.

Great Places:
Staff discussion: Stacey Mauer will take over grant administration, VISTA position has been delayed until April or July, and intern position is on hold until April.

Funds in Bank
$3,500 for sale of Pacific Ethanol stock

$5000 donor advisory trust, Oliver Bock (donated in Sept)

Electric Car – Ben and Stuart are checking in to electric cars for BGS

Calendars – Briggs finished the thank you and fundraising calendar for BFS

Pending funding:
Alces Foundation – This is an 8 – 12 thousand dollar grant that would cover our program costs for the Big Green Summer course. This is a family foundation and they have not put together the application as yet—will send as soon as it’s ready.
Woollam Foundation – Diana and Lonnie are meeting with Cathie Bailey on Sunday to discuss fundable components.

Self-guided tour: Diana will send Briggs and Brian the Great Places map. Briggs and Brian are working on the design and systems and will have it by the end of the week.

Student Recruiting: Diana reported that we have 3 scholarship for low income students from Alaska, 2 scholarships for students from Grinnell and one student from Iowa City. Diana is in communication with 15 prospective BGS or permaculture students.

Inter-Generational Finance Conference – Stuart attended conference at Esalan and talked extensively with Gifford Pinchot III, the president of Bainbridge Graduate Institute on Bainbridge Island, WA, about interactions with our SLC and internship programs for some of their students—exchange programs etc.
